
Biography
Distinguished by the NIT as “one of the most talented young people in the country,” Diogo Costa has been establishing himself as a violinist on the Portuguese classical music scene.
Born in 1995, in Gouveia, he began his studies at the Seia Music Conservatory - Collegium Musicum with Luis Beira Gomes, which he completed in 2013. He graduated from the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra under the guidance of violinist Carlos Damas and holds a Master's degree from the University of Minho under the guidance of violinists Eliot Lawson and Ilya Grubert.
He has been a member of the Orquestra Sem Fronteiras since 2019 and, with over ten years of experience collaborating with orchestral and chamber music groups, he has performed as a guest musician with the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the chamber music cycle “Música no Tempo de Marquês de Pombal”, among others.
He studied violin and chamber music with names like Sarah Willis (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Charles Niedich (Juilliard School of Music), Christoph Poppen (Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia), Daniel Rowland (Brodsky Quartet and Royal College of Music - London), Benjamin Schmid (Royal Salzburg), Jack Salz (Academy of Music - London), Philippe Graffin (Royal Conservatory - Brussels), Valery Oistrach (Royal Conservatory - Brussels).
Received an honorable mention at the Classic Summer Awards (1st ed.) and was a finalist for the NiT/Santa Casa da Misericórdia New Talent award (2nd ed.).
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Music at the University of Évora, where he is researching topics related to American classical music and the interpretation of its repertoires for violin.
